Beach Expansion Coming to Destin!

Written by Bailee Wilson | Apr 5, 2021 2:19:47 PM

Frequent visitors, potential newcomers, and locals alike can rejoice- a new beach expansion project will begin on April 12 and will add 184 feet of new shore to Crystal Beach Park.

Crystal Beach Park is a gorgeous little park right on the Gulf of Mexico, offering access to the Emerald Coast's signature clear waters and sugar white sand. Currently, the park's beach area is 67 feet wide, but the new construction will bring the total width up to 251 feet!

Public beach expansion is a current priority of the city of Destin, where visitors and locals have started complaining about beach privatization. Compared to nearby Okaloosa Island, Crystal Beach has few options for public recreation. Thanks to a new partnership between, Destin, Okaloosa County, and the nonprofit Trust for Public Land, this will change. Beach expansion will allow the Destin-area's brand to be bolstered, and its reputation as a world-class beach vacation town to be restored.

The project is expected to be completed in June, so summer visitors will be able to take advantage of the new shore access! Now is the perfect time to plan your summer trip to Destin!
